Full Version: Keys to Success

Tonight was not one of those nights.
I forced myself to stop working in the workshop about 11:30 PM, and then forced myself to shut down the laptop and stop working in bed around 1AM only to wake up about 3:30 AM. Not sure what idea or to-do it was exactly that woke me up (second thought, perhaps it was the Starbucks Frappuccino I debated whether or not to polish off before turning in?) but I decided to pull out my thank you cards and write a couple notes. Once I got writing I couldn’t stop and the following is the result of my sleepless night:
- Do what you love or learn to love what you do.
- Build what you can, with what you have, from where you are.
- Make it a point to give back on a regular basis – volunteer your time, donate your money or materials (even modestly) to a worthy cause, or simply smile genuinely say “thank you" and mean it.
- Get in the habit of sending thank yous to friends, family, co-workers, employees, vendors, an old teacher, or anyone who has ever directly or indirectly done something nice for you.
- Secretly do something nice for someone else and never tell anyone about it.
- Take time to handwrite notes when possible; writing is food for your soul and will enhance the feel-good feelings you will get from actually writing a note as opposed to sending a quick e-mail or a mailing store bought card. Plus the recipient will notice, appreciate and respect the extra effort on your part.
- Keep a copy of thank you notes you send and receive. Read them again when you need a boost.
- Remember where you came from, what it took to get where you are, and what it’s going to take to get where you want to be.
- Every now and then stop what you’re doing, close your eyes, block out any noises and just breathe.
Please feel free to add to the list; I enjoy keeping such things handy to keep me in focus when necessary. Some of these I’ve read before, some are my own thoughts (it seems I'm in an awful cheery mood?!)so take them for what you will.
It’s now almost 6AM and the sun is on its way. Better get up and moving, I’ve got another long day ahead of me. >.<

Great list to start off with and what a great way to start my day by reading it!
The power of "down-time" is amazing. That's when I get my best thoughts. Wrote both my kids graduation poems for their photos in their year books at 3 am and received tons of positive comments on both. I keep a note pad and pencil on my nightstand and write down all kinds of things in the dark - then try and decipher it all in the morning.
My contribution to the list:
Contribute to your community - not for what you get back, but for the power of being a part of the solution of making your community a better place for all.
Have a great day everyone,
Cindy M
PS - speaking of dreams, mine the other night involved an award dealer about 50 miles away who sells at very low prices and me giving them a stern lecture about customer service and quality. Who knows where that all came from!

Laura,
Would you mind if I cut/pasted/and printed your thoughts? I would like to share them with my Rotary Club.
Thanks
