Full Version: Getting Rid Of Popups

Got rid of my popups. Ad-Aware and Spybot did find some malware called SAIS a while ago but the popups continued occasionally.

After I scanned with 'hijackthis', (a fairly dangerous program if you do not know what you are doing), I did find an auto-start with SAIS in its name. Delete anything that says SAIS, probably one entry. Then go into 'program files' delete the folder called '180solutions'. This is the exe that runs the popups and the log files of everywhere you have been.

The boot is a little faster after this correction also. [I have to research hijackthis a bit more to see what else is recognizable.]

Harvey,

Google has a great pop-up blocker that is available when you download their toolbar. For me it has blocked almost all pop-ups. I bet I don't get one a month.

The toolbar also has a great page rank scale that indicates the ranking of a particular web page you may be viewing.

It also keeps the google search box at your fingertips at all times.

I think someone else mentioned this already, but if you haven't tried Mozilla Firefox, you should. The popup blocker is built into the browser and you get the Google (and other) search engines built into the address tool bar. I do not use Explorer any longer except for sites which were built for it only.

Hallelujah, for pop-up blockers. I have been told that a look of absolute fiendish glee "pops up" on my face, each time I hear the melodious "doink", of my pop-up blocker at work.

As always, of course, it seems like every silver lining is surrounded by a cloud. We used linked pop-up screens on all of our 12 web sites, to allow visitors to get additional, detailed information, in many areas. Pop-up blockers also block those screens, so we had to convert each to a regular htm or php page.

Actually, it didn't bother me but I did have to listen to my web master mumble in his beard for a few days :-)

Now, if there was just a way to block everything that offers me a solution for anything that I don't need or want anyway...

Have a good rest of the weekend.

I finally got WinXP working and bought Norton AV 2005.

Bad news, it now takes forever to boot and get on line since NAV2005.

Good news, it found 2 worms, and 96 other pieces of adware that the other program blockers did not. Only one it could not remove, ???

Also since installing I cannot access my email account. But the business and Wifey;s accounts work fine??? Settings look good but password is rejected.

P.S. Email is back up to where it should be so I deleted the alternate address.
