Chris ... I use my cell phone as my business phone and yes, I use it in my yellow page ad. I am using Verizon so don't know if other providers would do that or not.

Depending on your internet connection, you may be able to get VOIP from your provider.

We have a phone line from Cablevision and it comes in over our cable connection. It is a flat rate per month and works great as long as there is electricity AND the cable bill is paid... LOL!

Michel,

Thanks, this helps me some. I think I need to look into an antenna and a phone to match. I would really like to change the phone services around some. I will check them out again and see what I can find.

Thanks

aleta

Mike,

You are right, I am with your sister, just a few miles off the track. I have tried Tmobile, that works sometimes and not others. I just had cingular, that worked pretty good, but they are kicking me off for using too many minutes off of their networks! Wish they had told me that in the beginning, as I would have told them I wasn't on their network area. I am sometimes, it depends on where I stand in my house!

I have checked a few people, it seems in our area, there isn't any one that covers it all. My husband works for the state KDOT, and there is many areas he has no service.

I guess we will have to find one that does most but not all. Until they decide we need coverage up here. :S

Thanks for the info,

aleta

I would love to try the phone on the internet, but, internet is just as bad in our area as cell phones! :'-(

I would love to go with DSL or something else, as our landline internet is not very fast, infact, really slow! They say give them time and we will be able to get DSL. But not yet.

The sad thing with all this is , we are only 30 miles from Topeka! But I guess that is far enough!

I will keep looking into the phone on internet once internet is better.

Thanks,

aleta

HI,
I am not a home base business, but I do use the cell phone as my main business line, for that reason alone. I have answered the phone, at home, in the car, while on vacation, in supermarkets, etc. I did this because I do not want to miss even one call. I am fairly new to the area, 1.5 year and am still building the business, and it's important to get all calls.

I am glad to hear another person going out of their way to accomodate customers. They are your livelihood and you need all of them.
When she called at 9:45 in the evening, I am sure she thought she would probably get a voice message, and would have left a message for you, this way, you got to speak to her right away, and got the job.
Good for you, and I hope she remain one of your best.

Barbara

The one I would check is is Nextel/Sprint. Since their merger they should have a really good coverage.

But if you look at the coverage maps for all the companies the plains states are not well covered.

Mike,

Thanks, I will check them out. Yes, the plains are a hard area to cover.

Thanks,

Our shop is just getting off the ground and I spend an equal amount of time at home doing research & design, as I do actual production at the shop. Because of this, having a business line tied to a single location wasn't going to work..... Something to consider (and one we've taken advantage of with great success) is www.ringcentral.com. This is a service that will provide you with an (800) number that can be directed to ring on ANY phone ("land-line" or cell). I have to say, I'm the Design & Production Dept. so I don't have figures for you, but the website is pretty self-explanatory. The options available are easy to configure and make it a "quick setup" for a business line. This may be a solution for folks needing a publishable phone number but don't want to sit there and wait for it to ring. ;-)

Aleta,

When I go to see my mom in Onaga I usually have pretty good coverage with Cingular everywhere along the way except around Holt and Mayeta. In our house on the farm south of Onaga we have to go the bay window or outside for good signal but the house is in a valley so that is not too hard to understand. I have always had good luck with Cingular and have been with them for as long as I have had a cell phone. I just recently took a group of Boy Scouts and dads up there to camp. Two of us had Cingular with the other four dads having one of three other providers. Cingular was the only one with a reliable signal.

Yes, don't you love that dead spot around mayetta! :S

I have cingular, it does most of the time have service. But, they informed us we have only a few more weeks or less, to get new coverage, as we use too many minutes not on their network. We didn't even know there were networks until they told us and now our phone reads off network or on cingular. I would have stayed with them, I even added another phone just 3 months ago!

Well, I think I will do some looking into other companies fast, but also this antenna for houses and maybe look into the satelite for internet and try a internet phone. Several things to check on. :S

You will have to stop by sometime on your way to Onaga!

Aleta,
I have satellite for the internet (Starband) here at home in the mountains. It sure beats the 24K I used to connect at over the phone lines.

Mick,

I was looking at that last night. It might be one way for me to go. The speed is amazing.

Thanks for the info.

G'day all;

We are a retail site, open 6 days a week to the public. When we close I fwd. the store # to my cell phone...most of the time no real emergencies.....til this past Sunday. Spending a beautiful day on the links..approx. 1:50pm hole #6,, cell phone vibrates (never have a ringer on a golf course)... it's the sports editor of our local newspaper. The paper is holding a huge softball tournament and presentation is at 4.. we had all ready done the trophies 6'6", 5'6", 48" 38" and team trophies.
Apparently the first place trophy was injured while being removed from his SUV....what can we do.?? I pondered and told him I would get back to him....(did I mention it was a beautiful day, and I was only 4over par).
The guys I'm playing with are like, you're not going into town are you?? You 've got to take one day off....
So after completing 9 holes I left the foursome to meet the customer at the shop...The rods/nut had pulled right through the bottom of the base...I had it fixed in 20 minutes.... add in the 15 from the golf course and 15 back, I was able to rejoin the group and missed only 3 holes...
The customer was blown away by the fact I left a golf match. He explained to me that he knows he can purchase the product elswhere and for a cheaper price.... he also knows that not to many people would drop everything to handle an emergency. We have solidified another years worth of business with the paper (they spend a nice $figure over the year), plus we are being profiled in the sports section as "people you'd like to know".
The best part of the story---- he came in Monday morning with his own check to pay for the order as he didn't want me to wait for the paper to go through their normal chain of command...
My thought is, customers are to damn difficult to get, when we get em, we take care of em... we are def. not the lowest priced discount joint..we have a beautiful showroom and take pride in our service...finally after 13 years it's beginning to pay off (lol)
Have good one and keep smiling
Rob

Love that story Rob.

Especially the part about being an overnight success (after 13 years). :-)

So, c'mon. What was your final score, after missing three holes?

Thanks Dave;

Hole #10 at Maple Ridge is a par 5 they gave me a 6
#11 par 4 4 (its my fav. hole)
#12 par 3 4 (pond/bunkers)

With the 2 extra strokes my alleged friends are (were) hehe, I wound up with a 82.

Hey Vegas is only 196 days away!!!

Regards

Rob

No dialup involved, it sends upload direct to the satellite. It does download faster than it sends, but both are MUCH faster I get with the phone line hook up.
