This would be same J. Stephen Spence that served 51 days in jail for....

"Distribution and exhibiting of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Victim age range 0-5 and 6-14 male and female."

According to a newspaper story a while back......Employees turned him in after finding video camera's in the restrooms of his business....I understand that in the end, there was no conviction of any kind regarding the video camera's, but the fact that one of his employees found the camera's propegated the investigation that led to the discovery of the child pornography on his computer.

I have little interest in knowingly financially supporting someone convicted of this type of behavior.

I know this has been bantered about here and on DSSI, but I think the subject needs to be refreshed when he and his prouduct are being actively advertised on a public forum, and in trade magazines.

I believe that people have a right to know what kind of people they are supporting with their dollars.

Frankly, I doubt that Stephen Spence has much to add over and above what DSSI or EE has to offer when it comes to sublimation tips tricks and business suggestions. My personal opinion of him prior to his arrest and conviction was that he was pushing a small percentage of the full spectrum of available sublimatable products that were out there. Mainly those that supported him with their financial dollars. In other words, what he was selling, was a very narrow view of what was available in the industry.

Yes, it's the same person.

Just passing along an industry news item from Recognition Pro magazine.

Brian,

I have to say that is industry news, although mine is more current.

People do deserve the right to the whole story.

I'm surprised that didn't show up in Recognition Pro.

Well...actually not.

I'm not surprised that it didnt show up in the magazine when it was really a story either,....but I am really surprised that he is being touted by the trade mags after his conviction. I have no idea if Mike Neer is/was aware of the situation......It's just a bit surprising to see Mr Spence's name anywhere near the industry at this point.

Thanks,

Brian Genrich

Brian,

I hadn't heard how that whole situation ended up, but seeing him on the West Virginia sex offenders list with multiple victims is all I need to know. One's character can't get any lower than that. WOW! What are these publishers thinking?

David,

I'm sure they're thinking about selling magazines/books through a recognizeable name within the industry.

To my knowledge, there isn't a more prolific writer in our industry.

On the grand scale, the "sub story" isn't widely known.

I have no doubt there are some very valuable tips in the book. During his (past) career as a seminar speaker, Stephen has spoken to virtually thousands of people.

I'n not too concerned about how many people know, but I am concerned about the views of those who do know and don't seem to be bothered by his behavior.

David,
I'm not sure I understand your post; are you defending Mr. Spence, or just the publications that have aligned themselves with him? (It is pathetic that they would do so just to make money, no matter how knowledgeable or prolific a writer.)

Personally, I couldn't care less if he was the most knowledgeable person on the planet, and could guarantee the success of my business, I wouldn't want anything to do with him. There are some things that are so heinous, they cannot be glossed over. Sexual exploitation of children is certainly one of those things.

So what is the "sub story" that "isn't widely known", and how would it temper a conviction like this?
Am I reading you wrong, or are you very laid-back on this issue?

The sub-story IS his conviction. Of course that did not get much press, except here.

You do not expect the places he works for to advertise that fact, do you?

His conviction is not the sub-story...... unless he was writing children's books and/or holding readings for the kids.

As bad as what he did IS, it has no direct connection to his sublimation teaching..... they didn't find any 4.25" x 4.25" tiles with kids on them to my knowledge.

I won't buy/read/promote his book based on my opinion of his ethics, but I also won't try to equate one with the other.

What I would expect is that the places he works for become the places he USED to work for.

You can't separate the man from his actions, they affect everything about him, including his sublimation teachings.

That statement does exactly that.

Frankly, I'm surprised there are not more people upset about what is happening. There used to be a hard line that you didn't cross under penalty of life-long disgrace attached to your name. It is a sad state that now it just isn't that big a deal to most people, that they are more concerned about making money.

Steve was in LV at the ARA show last year. He did not have a group of followers trailing him around as he did in the past. Personally I found him to be somewhat narrow minded in many subjects long before he became a convicted man. He spoke out against vector beds and air assist on lasers saying that both were just useless add on items for laser companies to sell.
Then he someone gave him an after market laser bed to test. suddenly the became a believer!! Then he caught his own laser on fire during a vector cut - someone gave him a new laser with air assist to use - guess what air assist became the next thing that he touted as better than slice bread - all the while those of us who used them knew that he was full of _______ hot air! This is all recorded in his early teachings and then recanted in his writings in one or more trade journals.
As far as his conviction - 51 days a 5 years for sex crime against children - shows how far our society has lowered itself. 51 whippings a day for 5 years is not enough. I am not sure that I have ever posted anything about how I feel about this before but I think he needs to crawl back under his rock. By the way did you know he was an ex-minister!

It is quite obvious how many on this forum feel about him. Past threads prove that, and so does this one.

He was NOT invited to join this forum and will never receive an invitation. If I put up a poll asking if he should be invited, it would probably be the most answered poll in the history of the forum, and probably the most lopsided.

This thread has gotten a little off topic, maybe we should change the title to something more applicable. How should it read?
