We are currently in the process of supplying a bronze cast sign in our fair city, that was unbolted and crow barred off a plinth..18" x 18"..
Copper, Bronze, Aluminium and stainless steel prices have caused an enormous spike in theft.
The incidence of copper piping being torn off of buildings is at almost epidemic rates here in Adelaide. ( Copper pipes for water are quite often run down the outside of buildings, generally older style places, and smaller commercial shopping strips)
Now the thieves are simply targetting historic plaques..
(devil)

I came across a mention on the web of the bridge I had heard about being stolen in Eastern Europe. It happened in 2004:
Entire bridge stolen in southern Bosnia
SARAJEVO (AP) - In what could qualify for “Ripley’s Believe It or Not,†seven thieves stole an entire 13-meter bridge near the southern Bosnian town of Mostar, police said yesterday. Over several days, the group dismantled the metal bridge built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire some 150 years ago, transported the parts to a local junkyard and sold them, a police statement said. While it happened in a remote mountainous region, local villagers saw the thieves loading parts of the bridge into vans and alerted police yesterday. The seven men were arrested and are being held pending a decision by a prosecutor. Without disclosing their names, police said the Gypsies, or Roma, sold the metal parts for 280 convertible marks ($170 or 140 euros).

What's more unbelievable than the story itself, is the fact that the villagers clammed up for several days, before alerting the authorities.
Maybe they were part of the work crew. :-)

Dave,
A little-known story, which showed up in the back pages of the Bosnian newspaper, said the villagers discussed whether they should turn the crooks in or not.
The Mayor of the village said, "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

C'mon, you have to consider how late it was when I made that post.
I didn't think it would be a reason enough for you to "bolt." :-)

OK, I guess I should "support" this kind wit. I know it makes you "beam" with glee to come up with these brain teasers. It was just a "load" off my mind to find that article.
Now I have to "strut" out of here and get some work done before someone tries to "steel" my customers.

I'm glad we could "iron" out our differences. Let me know when we've reached a "draw."

It's true that a day is a fair "span" of time, but we don't know if the people in "London" have had a chance to catch up with their reading.

Indeed they are...despite a bit of "tension" on the job! You know Aunt Enna, she gets a little testy when her "girder" is too tight....
They'll get through it though, as they say, you need more than just love, you need a lot of "Truss""....

Yes, that's true, but with Uncle Loren and Aunt Enna, it never seems to end...
Apparently she was busted for performing her "catwalk"...she's asked to be tried before a jury of her "piers"...
(is it high tide in here? :-) )
