Dave,
Everyone has their own personal description/opinion of a "usless" argument/discussion. Just because it's not the same as yours....doesn't make mine wrong.....
For wanting these "useless" discussions to end, you sure bring them up enough.......
You're a moderator...Isn't it time you back off the pot shots already?

Even though this is a Topic of Choice, it doesn't mean the topic doesn't have value and the original poster may be very serious. Those replying should note the intent of the first post and act accordingly. If it looks to be a lighthearted subject then have at it. On the other hand, if it looks to be a post with merit then keep the puns to oneself.
We all know what can happen when the first jumps in with a pun. Did I see the floodgates open?
Look at sports for instance. If there is a fight in hockey, the first guy to join the melee is the one punished more severely. Why does the league enforce this? So it doesn't get out of hand...
Don't get me wrong, the punsters here are very....very good and I have my laughs like the next guy. But, I also feel for the original poster that had a concern turned into a joke thread.
I guess the answer might be to give an appropriate response the the poster.....and then.....just maybe throw one out if you can't hold it in any longer.

Brian,
David Takes WAS a moderator for some time and a good one.....but he NEVER took pot shots at anyone.

Harvey,
I voted YES! As one of the folks that precipitated the new "rules"....I am pleased at the ZERO tolerance for the constant bickering.....but like someone mentioned, one of the big reasons for coming here for me is the comraderie.....and in ANY discussion.....here or in real life or in person, or in a chat room.....things will ALWAYS digress, but they also have a way of getting back on track......if you take the humor away...it will be the same as allowing the bickering.....so there is no point.....( I think I may have just confused myself.)......
Just my two cents. Want change?

I voted no to allowing sidetracking in the Topic of Your Choice folder.
Just because it is a Topic of Your Choice does not make it a "Change the Topic Within the Topic of Your Choice if You Want" folder.
If someone wants to sidetrack the topic, let them create their own topic.
Just my thoughts.
Greg
