Man, did this bring back the memories!
There is no way any of this can be duplicated today. Life was so simple then and even the silliest could make you laugh.
Hope you enjoy!!!!!
Post your favorites please...
And....snoop around some of the other links, they are very good.

I liked too many to mention, but "Rawhide" was one of my favorites.
I also liked "What's My Line" in the game show category.
Locally, there was a show called "Ralph Story's Los Angeles" that I liked a lot.
Of course, "Twilight Zone" is still good for hours of entertainment, when they do the marathons. :-)

Performers today can't even come close to what we used to watch. I am speaking of the comedy mostly...who can you even imagine trying to do a variety show today?
Performers back in the day wanted to make people laugh...today they just want to be known as a overpaid "star".
I would trade my color TV for black and white anyday if I could.

Only if it came with the original shows... and the original "Who's on First" and "Niagra Falls" routines.
For you young 'uns, those were premium Abbott and Costello bits :D

One of the best things about b&w tv was that the news was only 15 minutes. Here in St. Louis we get an hour and a half beginning at 5 pm. And the rest of the day is filled with commercials about the evening news.
Of course I precede b&w tv so I remember the old radio shows and not being allowed to speak during evening news. My dad and 7 uncles were serving in WW2 so my grandparents waited every night to hear Gabriel Heater or Lowell Thomas.

We have a local station that now has added a 4:00 news hour, followed by a 5:00 news hour, followed by 6:00 regular news.
Imagine all the digging they have to do to report for 2 1/2 hours each day, oh, and dont forget the 11pm news.
The strange thing, each news program has it's own set of anchor people, sports and weather person. Seems like an expensive way to report the news.

Maybe it's an L.A. thing, but I lost it for some local news channels, when they started competing with the entertainment channels, i.e. Entertainment Tonight, etc.
I don't particularly consider celebrity daliances, or divorces, etc. as news.
Also, instead of telling the news, they tease for an upcoming news segment. Must not be news, of very high import, if they can wait an hour or two to actually report it.

Hey David,
You can't forget the MOST IMPORTANT So Cal NEWS "The So. Cal. car chases.
I think they average about 2 hours. and the funny thing is it always ends up the same way. They always catch the idiots and yet people still do it just to get on TV. "only in L.A."

I hate to confess, but I get sucked into watching how those chases end up; especially the motorcycle chases. >.<
