Life's not that simple. One needs nourishment to be able to live to get up with the sun. It takes a living to pay for nourishment or to keep from becoming a begger.

That's my point. It COULD be that simple. Food. Shelter. Clothing.
That is ALL we need. However, our society has decided that "shelter" equates to a 4000 sq foot house. Food equates to "fine dining" and if you clothing isn't gucci or calvin klien forget it.
I realize that it cannot be broken down to the smallest demonitator in the this day and age, however it does not need to be so complex either
Now that will cost you another nickel for the additional two cents. B-)

I think it's also about the choices you make and the perspective with which you look at those choices.
My inlaws have 2- 4000+ sq. ft homes, eat the finest foods and wear only expensive clothes...
They are 2 of the most miserable people I have ever known.....
It's up to you to figure out what makes you happy. It's up to you be happy about just getting up and starting your day.
Don't worry about what makes the rest of the world happy..they don't have to live in your shoes. Only you do... ;-)
For the record, I agree with you 100%. The simple things in life should be what gives us our greatest joy.
That's why some of my happiest days are when the only thing that goes righ in the day is that all of the socks that go into the laundry, come back out again. :-)
I could care less what kind of socks they are.
i'll give you change if you want it ;-)

Oh My. Here we go...with your "rye" sense of humor.

And enough money saved up so we continue to have food shelter and clothing when we either can't or don't want to work every day to pay for that day's food, shelter, and clothing.
I don't want to be eating bread and water when I get "old" (assuming I make it).

I had an old friend that always said the same thing when asked "how are you today" his reply, well you know me "Everyday's a holiday, every meal's a feast" ! I always loved that one.
It's attitudes like his, and like Chuck's friend, that makes a nicer world to be in.

Yes it is. I admire folks that can keep up that attitude at all times. I wish I could......imagine a world were everyone thought like that?

Chuck,
I've tried to send you a PM about this, but it isn't showing up in my outbox, so I'm not sure you are going to get it, so I'm posting this.
We have a friend/customer in Hawaii for whom we will be turning pens for sale on his ranch. He has a "dude" ranch on one of the islands (I don't know which one as yet) and has access to almost unlimited amounts of wood. He wants to make items from the wood on the ranch to sell in his gift shop as souvenirs of their visits. I told him that you have laser equipment, but I'm not sure what else you have. He's interested in some CNC work - perhaps picture frames engraved with the ranch logo, or other items. I gave him your name and the name of your company. Will you let me know what other equipment you have that you might be able to work with him on?
Thanks, I appreciate your help.

My deceased father-in-law use to respond to the question "How are you feeling?" or "How to you feel" with the response:
"With my fingers."
He had bone cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes, emphysema, pernicious anemia, and a heart condition! That is positive thinking.
