1. paint the bottom edge of the plaques black

2. use trophy tape on the bottom and set it into place

3. the expansion/contraction of the wood will be so minute you won't notice it

The regular paper trophy tape will dry out quickly and release.
I use the tape sold as superstick or tuff tape with the gold backing sold by several places. Innotec has it by the case in many widths if you need a lot.
Tesa 4970.

To fill gaps in grooves I sometimes use more than one layer.

Johnson Plastics code is the 4970xx series
Innotec just uses Tesa 4970
