We do laser engraved badges for several churches in our area at $12.50 per, with frame. Any logo work is extra. With large initial quantities (20+), we lower the price to $10.50.
If your price happens to be anything less, you are already leaving money on the table. To help them buy fewer badges, or otherwise cut your price even more, is nuts. Don't do it.
A suggestion would be to have generic "no name" badges; name of church, with "GREETER". Not as personal, but gets the job done. Of course, then good meaning folks will still walk off with their badge in spite of no longer volunteering to greet.

Hi Brian ... I did a number of church name badges on FRP with the picture (or rather a pen and ink line drawing of it) and then applied a label from my brother machine for them to do exactly what you suggested.
On some name badges for 'key' people in the church we just engraved their names.
I have attached a picture of it.

How about if the people pay for their own badges? Cuts the cost by 100% for the church and you still get all the business. A win for both!

I make a lot of low end name tags from 1/32" IPI silver or gold. I round the corners in the laser and use pin type clasps.
You may be able to continue with the personalization but just lower the feature content of the name tags.
