John,
Your thought about the number of nodes choking the system could have some merit. This is the first time I've ever had this issue. I now know some new angles to take in dealing with it if it rears its evil head again.

My "too many nodes" theory still holds true with the new file that was posted.
I opened and ungrouped it and it is has a solid black layer behind which has the most nodes (about 3200 nodes if my memory is correct). The circles and columns are in several pieces with a white outline and white color layed over the top of the black layer.
The original was all combined as one with the black going around the white areas. This created the total node count over 12,000.
A full black object under the separate white ones in the new file were separate objects so the node count per object was much less.
EPS filter may have been smart enough to do that on purpose or might just handle things differently.
I have ran across the splittling of ojects before mostly when I could only open something in Adobe illustrator ver9 and saved it as a lower version before I had corel x3. It would open in ver 11 but I would sometimes get the objects in pieces like somebody sliced in in vertical strips.
That doesn't matter for lasering but is harder to edit. But I make engraveable logos most of the time so the objects have to be re-connected and must be conbineable so my hatch fill program will work. Layering will not work as even hidden vector lines will engrave on a rotary.

I think you have everything clear by now but just in case I did print it from X3 on my laser printer and it was perfect.
Hope you got my email on the item we talked about Friday.
Yesterday was a long day 6:30 am till 10:30 pm and back in today all day but I am about to quit - to tired - afraid I will make mistakes.

I got the job done thanks to everyone's help.
I did get your e-mail later in the day and was going to respond tonight. I'll be doing a little research on that unit to see if it meets my needs. Thanks again!

Hi David,
I had to try it to see what the fuss was about.
I previewed fine bu woud not print the top or bottom of the column on my Xerox7750 I tried combing and nothing printed (still looked good in the print preview)
Broke it apart sent large black column pieces to back and selected ornamental detail pieces and coloured them white (they turned black after breaking apart.) Printed perfect after that.
Will
