We do a similar trophy for a local paintball store, except that we incorporate a resin figure into the design AND a full color 2" x 3"dye-sub tournament logo plate . The owner promotes tournaments. Five events per year; 1st thru 4th Place. Plus some "Championship" trophies at year end. Plus, along the way we outsourced some event medals.
In consideration of this kind of volume, our 36" trophy price has been negotiated @ $55 per. We review the pricing annually. This is year-end. We'll probably attempt getting to about $62.50.
Hope this helps.

We would charge 85.00 for that type of trophy.

Speaking of trophies with columns, how do you cut the column? I have just ordered my first trophy supplies and hope to ruin as few as possible. I would assume a bandsaw or some kind of chopsaw. I just hope it is not another special tool to buy. :-)

Yea, Chris, it's a chop saw. With lot's of teeth for fine cutting. Our's is a 15 yr old 10" Makita. When I bought it, I fancied myself as a hobbiest woodworker. It's had more use in the last 3 1/2 yrs than I ever used it in woodworking. Who would have thought?
I use a couple of 3/4-1 in. thick x 2 in. x 12 in. oak scrap pieces for fences left and right. Then I clamp a stop block for the dimension for multiple columns of the same length, etc.
The newer chopsaws may come with a fence/stop block set-up.

Joyce,
We're right in line with your pricing...we ended up at $80. I know what we need to make on these, but I wanted to see where other folks were.
Incidently, we do very few of the smaller trophies (under 24"). Nearly every trophy we do is at least 24" tall, and has 3 or 4 columns. They are definitely more time-consuming, but we charge for that extra time (and all the extra hardware!).

Chris,
I didn't see your question as a hijack.
The discussion is regarding pricing, with the labor involved in the creation of the award, being a prime component. (no pun intended, this time.)

Bill,
How we price them depends largely on who the customer is. We tend to cater to schools more than any other type of customer, and give them better pricing than we do to anyone else.
For them, we do 2x material cost, plus $60/hr assembly time. On these trophies, I figure 20 to 30 minutes each (including cutting columns and engraving the plate). That's a pretty generous amount of time. If I'm only doing a single trophy, that's about how long it takes. Doing multiples cuts the time way down, since I can do them in stages....just makes it easier.
I've never done large trophies for anyone but schools, but we would most likely charge 2.5x material, along with the same labor calcs.

Cody,
Nice job. I posted an article from a marketing news letter I get, regarding pricing in the general folder......take a look at it.......I have come to the conclusion that one must price their products and services with regard to profit and profit alone.
This leaves quality, convenience, professionalism...and SERVICE as our only real means of competion....
Regardless, if *I* had to price the trophy you made, it would by necessity be well over $100.00.

my price came at $97.50 pricing and qty discounts have to be considered but I priced it with first col pricing fpr one trophy.. and yes doing one takes more time than doing a qty... my price does not include engraving.. I also have a policy if the customer needs the trophy in under 5 days they pay the shipping charges for any parts not in stock.... .. I try to put orders in every week.. to keep the shipping down.. its the small orders that kill your margin..
