Jackson Hole, WY has had the highest median housing in the US for some time. Last I read it was around $700,000.

When we were living in CT some 15 years ago there was a blurb in our paper that a group in Greenwich was holding a meeting to try to figure out why there was no middle class residing there. It seems at that time the median price of a house was $450,000.00! I have no idea what if anything they came up with. We did NOT live in Greenwich.

In Bronxville, NY the median value is $855,065 and in Scarsdale, NY it is $1,037,998.
In 2000 the median household income was ~$200,000 per year. This is almost as high as the "pineapple palace"....
