Anyone have any great ideas on how to mount an old Dentist's drill onto a wood plaque. The drill is about 3/8" in diameter and 5-6 inches long. This for a Dentist who is celebrating 25 years of service. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. They like the looks of the walnut and alder plaques.
Thanks

I would probably drill one small hole in the plaque, wrap the drill with very fine wire and use a pin or small nail to wrap the wire around on the back of the plaque.

Or drill two small holes near each other, wrap a wire then twist it on the back. The holes will be hidden by the deadly instrument.

Deep,
I would drill and tap the back side of the dental drill, which will allow you to tightly fasten this device to the plaque from the back side with the proper length screws. I would also add a thin bead of adhesive on the back side of the drill for added security.

Dave:
That, I'd pay to see.

That answer raises the idea of using RTV Silicone for mounting.

Harvey,
That will work for lightweight items, but heavier objects tend to work their way loose.

It does certainly depend on the alloy composition, etc., but I've been successful doing this with many different metals.

I've done a bit of that as well but I have a feeling that the tool steel will be formidable.
If you can do it it is the best option, minus the adhesive. A material called Loctite put on the threads will suffice.
I would also be concerned about time and overall job cost.
